DA Critisized for Ignoring Supreme Court Order on SABC Case
The Democratic Alliance has ignored a court order and is gunning ahead to have SABC Chief Operating Officer, Hlaudi Motsoeneng suspended within 24 hours.
This goes against last week's court decision where the Supreme Court of Appeals gave SABC up to 74 days to act on Hlaudi matter. The court allowed the SABC 14 days to draw up charges against Motsoeneng and 60 days to institute a disciplinary action in line with its policies.
Yesterday, the DA threatened to take the SABC to court should it not suspend its chief operations officer, Hlaudi Motsoeneng, by 2pm today.
SABC's annual report revealed that the corporation posted R7 billion of operating revenue and a cash balance of R1 billion during Motsoeneng's reigns. This is a huge improvement as compared to previous years. The report also showed that SABC has only 3 negative findings as compared to 12 during its previous years of operation.

It is not clear as to why the DA does not this that SABC must comply with the court order. The order gives the right to appeal and to states its reasons if it thinks that Hlaudi must not be suspended.
It seems that the DA does not understand that this is a legal matter and that the SABC has a right to exercise its options.
Because the SABC decided to exercise its right to appeal the decision, the 74 days given by the court has not started counting yet. Only if the SABC loses on its appeal, will 74 days be effective.
The SABC's lawyer, Nkosinathi Mchunu, said he was not aware of the DA's intentions. The SABC was preparing to appeal against the Supreme Court of Appeal ruling.
