Stellenbosch University has been accused for allowing apartheid strategist, Dr Wouter Basson, also known as Dr Death, to teach medical students.
Dr Basson is known for his role he played in killing of black people during apartheid in South Africa. He headed a top secret chemical warfare project which claim countless lives of black South Africans.
In 2013, Dr Basson was found guilty on four charges of unprofessional conduct by the Health Professionals Council of South Africa.
Stellenbosch medical students expressed their anger in a statement issued yesterday that read:
"It has come to our attention that Dr Wouter Basson teaches select groups of 4th year medical students who are on clinical rotation at Mediclinic. Wouter Basson was the Apartheid-era head of the chemical and biological warfare project for the South African government and is accused of multiple crimes against humanity.
Tygerberg Student Council hereby issues a clear and unambiguous call to Management to effectively bar Wouter Basson from any and all contact with students.
We are of the understanding that Stellenbosch University uses Mediclinic as a partner in the education of Tygerberg Students and believe the University should review the policies that made students vulnerable to such a situation."
Stellenbosch university students collective called The Open Stellenbosch, has called for thorough investigation on how the university hires apartheid linked individuals and pays them money.
