The DA has been accused for working with forces that peddle news aimed at destabilizing the rand in order to crash SA economy. This comes after DA Facebook Page published a misleading post alleging that Finance Ministers, Pravin Gordhan is eminent.
Just minutes after DA post, newspapers then picked up the story and started circulating it via social media.
“The arrest of the Minister of Finance, Pravin Gordhan, would be a disaster for South Africa. It would cause an economic earthquake and make “9/12” look like a minor economic tremor.
Rumours reported today suggest that the Minister may be arrested, together with eight other officials, to face charges relating to the SARS rogue unit.” read DA Facebook page post.
The Presidency later came condemned the post.
“The Presidency has noted the story in the Sunday Times alleging an imminent arrest of the Minister of Finance. We have also noted the response of law enforcement agencies which have swiftly denied the rumour. It is clear therefore that the story is the work of dangerous information peddlers who wish to cause confusion and mayhem in the country.” read The Presidency statement.
It is expected that the rand performance will be badly affected DA’s incorrect reports when markets open on Monday morning.
