Majority Supports Zuma's Salary Increase To R2.7 million
The salary of President Zuma was today increased by the Parliament of South Africa by just 5% from what he was earning.
The proposal for his salary increase was submitted to parliament by the Independent Commission on Remuneration of Public Office Bearers in January this year. Many were under the impression that this move was initiated by the Anc.
President Zuma will now earn just R2.7 million per annum. This is far too low compared to many executives who earn as high as R20 million a year excluding bonuses.
Parliament moved against Mmusi Maimane's objection to the proposal. It appeared that Mmusi failed to provide reasons as to why Zuma's salary should not be increased.
