Cell C Power In Telkom's Hands As Sale Negotiations Continue
Bloomberg earlier reported that Cell C major shareholder, Oger Telecom, rejected Telkom's offer of R14 billion last month. A new offer has been made by Oger Telecoms for R22 billion and Telkom has indicated its interest in buying at a new offer.
Shareholders are not at ease since no details have been made public about the deal.
“Shareholders should also specifically exercise caution when reacting to information on this matter which has not been released by Telkom,” it said in a statement.
Cell C chief executive officer said that the company now has just shy of 22 million customers. This is compared to MTN SA, which has a subscriber base of 28.5 million, and Vodacom, with 31.4 million active users.
According to a report released by Business Tech, Vodacom which has networks in Tanzania, the Democratic Republic of Congo, Mozambique, and Lesotho, has a market cap at approximately R203.8 billion.
MTN, meanwhile, has a market cap exceeding R326.6 billion, serving 230 million customers in 21 countries in Africa and the Middle East.
